communication training

For a parent, nothing beats the feeling of hearing a child utter his or her first word. As early as this stage, you are already helping your children develop their communication skills, which is an essential part of their life that will be carried on as they grow into adults. Be it in a personal or professional environment, having the ability to communicate effectively is an essential key to survival.

However, there are certain barriers to effective communication which some people may need to overcome. Factors like lack of self-confidence, not knowing the right words to use, and not being able to determine the best method by which you can get your message across are a few of the reasons why some people find it difficult to communicate. If you are experiencing these problems, you need to undergo communication training which will help you overcome such obstacles.

Learning is an ongoing process and even if you think that you are already a good speaker or communicator, there is always room for improvement. On the other hand, if you are having difficulties in “sending the right message” to the people that you are communicating with, you will certainly benefit from communication training, be it a formal or informal type of learning. Read on to learn more about the benefits of communication training:

1. You will have a solid grasp of what communication is all about.

By merely observing a conversation from afar, you will have some idea of what effective communication is all about. Gathering feedback, gaining another person’s opinion, commanding or asking another person to do something, persuading another person to your way of thinking – there are a lot of purposes when it comes to why people communicate. So generally, communication involves getting your message across. As soon as you learn this fundamental, this will be your basis in the communication training towards developing effective communication skills.

2. You will learn how to ‘adjust’ your methods of communicating according to the situation or the person that you are dealing with.

One of the major barriers of communication is not knowing how to keep up with the pace of the person that you are speaking with. Remember, the way that you speak with your colleagues at work should be different from the way that you address your superiors. The way that you speak with your friends will be similar with the way that you communicate with your family. The way that you deal with a total stranger is different from the way that you will treat a neighbor or an acquaintance.

From these examples, you will see that you are able to adjust the way that you communicate with different people under various circumstances. Since you already have this basic communication skill, all you have to do is enhance it by being more sensitive to the needs of the person that you are dealing with, as well as gauging his or her response to what you are saying.

3. You will develop your speaking and listening skills, as well as enhance your ‘people’ skills.

Good communication training will develop your active listening skills, as well as your speaking skills. Also, you can learn how to ‘read’ a person’s body language, and build rapport with the people that you are dealing with. Finally, you will be able to identify your personal ‘effective communication barriers’ and take steps in eliminating them.

With all these benefits and more, why would you not want to take advantage of communication training? Not only will you be a better speaker and listener, but you will also gain confidence in the fact that you can build better personal and professional relationships with the people around you through effective communication.

employee time management

Introducing a time and attendance system can have really excellent time saving results.  The system can allow you to quickly identify who is putting in the effort to make your business succeed and who isn’t.

To avoid the difficulties of a negative employee reaction to the introduction of a time and attendance system there are some positive actions you can take.  For example you may have rewards in place for those that haven’t missed a day of work all year. With such a system it will be very simple to track. You can also use productivity information to decide who you want to give a pay increase to. Perhaps that information will also help you to make decisions about promotions for your very best employees.

To make the most of any time and attendance system you want to have the ability to customize certain aspects of it. For example if you want to be able to track groups of people working on a project you need that ability. You also want to be able to make schedules for a day, week, month, or even a full year. Then you can go in and make some alterations later on if you need to do so. Having such abilities will save you time with repetitive labor scheduling efforts.

In order to make sure you get the most from how you schedule employees vacation and attendance you need to have easy to access reports. You need to be able to compare your production rates in relationship to employee hours. This data is very important as it will help you to determine if you have the right number of people scheduled or if you need to make changes.

Make sure the navigation of time and attendance scheduling programs works well for you too. After all such a program is devised in order to save you time and to reduce errors. If you are spending tons of time figuring out how to use it then there isn’t any benefit.

Keep in mind that it will take you time to master any decent scheduling program. The flow of it should be logical and you should feel like you are getting the basics of it from the very start.  If there is one available I’d advise you to take a course on the use of the program.  It will help make you faster at using it and avoid a lot of time wasting.

Keeping your business related expenses as low as you can is important. One way to do so is with time and attendance scheduling systems. You don’t want to pay more for wages than you have to. You also need to know when the volume of work warrants hiring more employees. A time and attendance system will help to take the guess work out of such decisions by having a great program in place you can rely on.

time management advice

Time Management Advice:

Succeeding with time management can often make or break your career or small business.  Even if you do a good job during the time you are focused on your work – if you spend too much time dealing with non-relevant tasks – your good work will be dilluted.  In this article, we will outline common pitfalls of time management and ways you can help yourself.

Get Help

Quite often, you try to do everything for yourself.  This seems to be a good strategy as you belive that if you do everything yourself – you can guarantee it is done correctly.  However, you need to focus on doing the things you are good at.  If you spend time on things that you aren’t good at – or if you spend time on things that aren’t your focus – than you will not be as productive as you can be.  Also, someone else may be able to do something quicker and better than you can.  So, it is important to get help – and have other people take care of certain tasks for you so that you can focus on what you are best at

To Do Lists

To do lists may sounds stupid – they may sound like something you would do in high school.  But, it’s a busy world, and sometimes To Do lists are needed to ensure that you don’t forget any relevant tasks.  But, another advantage of To Do Lists are that they can motivate you to get your work done.  If you make a to do list – it can be easy to see clearly what you need to get done – and often, these lists can help you to realize that the amount of work you need to get done isn’t so bad after all.

Fast Computer

Many people whom work online waist away time with a slow computer.  Often, a slow computer will be the sole reason why you are un-productive.  If you spend time being unproductive – you won’t get as much work completed.  Having a faster computer, even if it costs more money, can often pay for itself in the added productivity.  So, if you are a computer person, take the time needed to get your computer up to speed, or look into getting  a new computer.  The cost will probably be paid for in added productivity.

Know how much your time is worth

Try to remember that you work hard and make good money.  So, keep this in mind when you spend time on other tasks.  If you make $25 an hour – does it make sense to go to the store to take back a $2 item.  That half hour you spend on that task, may save you $2, but if you worked during that time, you would probably make more money through your productivitiy.  So, realize that your time is money, and prioritize accordingly.

time management workshop

Time management skills are one of the most invaluable skills that you can acquire, regardless of the industry or profession you work in. In the modern world, everything moves at such a cut-throat pace that it is very easy for us to lose perspective and get swept away by all the things we need to do. Additionally, this often results in individual employees failing to have any semblance of a personal life, as they have no time to engage in any activities outside the workplace.

In the long run, this trend is something that is very bad for overall productivity, as employees will become saturated and fail to deliver results even though they spend long hours in the office. Organising a time management workshop. for your employees will enable them to prioritise work and achieve important targets first, negotiate realistic deadliness before starting projects and sub-divide their overall list of tasks into smaller goals that are achievable.

james fallows

I’ve never laid carpet, tiles or lino but there is one floor I do know how to lay and that is the carpeting for the outdoor room. I speak of course of the most popular garden ground-cover the lawn.

Prepare before you sow

The best time to sow grass seed is between early April and early September, however you must firstly carry out some preparation. Ideally sometime between March and August you must “burn off” any unwanted growth. Achieve this by spraying all weedy soil areas on a dry day with a herbicide containing the active ingredient Glyphosate. Apply according to the manufacturers instructions and heed safety warnings.

Grading the site

A minimum of 1 month must elapse before you start to grade or level the site, this will allow the spray to reach the roots of weeds such as docks and dandelions. Ensure nothing but light rainfall occurs when you are carrying out soil movement and grading whether it be by hand or machine. This will prevent creating a pan in the soil (a layer of smeared soil or subsoil that water cannot drain through). You must grade the site to an acceptable level without bringing subsoil to the surface; subsoil on the surface has ruined many the new lawns by causing hungry looking brown patches. When grading your soil remove any half buried timber and old tree roots as they will lead to toad stools in the established lawn. Also remove any concrete blocks and large stones; basically remove any debris bigger than your fist.

Fallow before final cultivation

Leave the graded site to settle and regrow any dormant weeds for at least a month then spray the weed growth again with a Glyphosate based herbicide. For the final cultivation give the soil a shallow rotovate or lightly dig it over with a garden fork whilst breaking clods with the back of the fork. Rake to an acceptable level whilst removing all surface debris down to the size of a 1 euro coin including weed stems and roots. The soil should have a nice fine tilth like the texture of cake crumbs; it should not be fine like powder as this will prevent seed germination.

Seed sowing secrets

The ideal situation would be to sow the seed before you get the next heavy shower of rain as at that stage you will begin to loose the soil tilth. You will need approx 40 to 50g of seed per square metre, which can be broadcast by hand or use a wheeled spreader Divide the seed into 2 lots and spread half the seed whilst walking up and down, with the other half being spread whilst walking left and right across the lawn When spreading any seed avoid spreading onto drives, patios and beds. Lightly rake the seed into the soil with a sprung rake, do not drive it in or bury it. Follow this by lightly rolling the area with a half-filled water roller; the idea is to get firm seed and soil contact to ensure germination. Have some extra soil and seed to hand as a hollow or two may show up when rolling, you can then top up the soil and give it a shake of seed. Depending on the weather conditions your seedlings will begin to appear within 2 to 3 weeks.

However time management training  and getting good at time management skills can provide you with the feeling of achieving a certain amount of work at the end of each day, as opposed to going home from work and feeling although you have worked long hours you have achieved nothing during the day.

Good time management skills is about many things, prioritising, managing interruptions, avoiding procrastination etc. But time management really starts with having a plan of action which clearly states the tasks you are hoping to complete on any given day—other wise known as a to do list.

I am not a fan per se of to do lists however I do believe you need an action list outlining the actions you are going to take to achieve your tasks on a daily basis. Time management training will always speak of the importance of planning your work and working your plan

I have set out below some key points for getting into the habit of writing a list and managing the list.

Before writing a list as part of your time management skills, you should always check your diary for that day, as if you use effective diary control to make appointments with yourself for the tasks you need to carry out, there will always be daily entries in the diary.

Remember the 80/20 principle 80% of things on your time management list will produce 20% of the results and 20% of the list will produce 80% of the results. A key element of time management training is to always remember this rule and work on the key areas that produce the important results.

Get yourself in to the habit of writing a time management list every day, try to write the list at the same time daily so as it forms a habit. Some will do the time management list first thing in the morning whilst others will use time management skills to prepare the list the night before, just before you leave work—leaving it on your desk for as soon as you arrive the following morning.

Time management training courses will tell you that the important thing is to get into the habit of writing a list each day on one piece of paper (not a thousand yellow stickies all over your pc)The list should take no more than 10 minutes maximum to compile. Time management is not about having loads of things on your list, it is about having the most important things on your list. Time management skill training will teach you it is not the amount of items on the list but the importance of the items.

You must allow time for emergency changes in your daily schedule. No matter how effective you are at training yourself in the skills of time management, there will always be the possibility of unscheduled important tasks popping up or interruptions etc.

Be realistic with your time management lists and try your best to allocate each task a start time and finish time. Group similar tasks together for momentum and remember to carry forward items from one day to the other (only if they are important and must be actioned.)

Even think of rewarding yourself after each task has been done and crossed off the time management list. Remember the key saying in effective time management skills training:

Is what I am dong now helping me to achieve my objective?

part time management

When you start your own home business, one of the skills you have to hone is that of time management. Without proper time management, you will be running around like a chicken with its head cut off trying to get everything done. If you want your home business to run as efficiently as possible and be as profitable as it can be, time management is an absolute must.

It Is Not Exactly Easy As Pie

Many home business owners make the mistake of thinking time management is something that is easy to accomplish right off the bat. Unless you are the Superman or Superwoman of multitasking and are an expert at allocating tasks to every minute of every day, home business time management is going to take some getting used to.

The hardest time you will have with time management is during the startup phase of your home business. However, it is during this phase that you need to sharpen your time management skills and get your time management policies pounded out.

Employed Time Management vs. Self-Employed Time Management

When you work for someone else, your daily tasks are usually set for you and your schedule is usually managed by your boss. When you work for yourself, you have to prioritize your own schedule and you have to be self driven. If you fail on either of these responsibilities, your home business fails with you.

Another difference between time management with an employer and time management with a home business is the number of hats you wear. When you work for an employer, you have a set number of responsibilities.

When you work for yourself, you have to do everything from business setup and marketing to procurement and fulfillment. Home business owners wear an endless number of hats. Because of this, knowing how much time to schedule for each “job” is critical. When you work for someone else, it is not uncommon to spend a day here or there slacking on your duties, playing solitaire on the computer and surfing the Web at your leisure. You get paid either way. When you have a home business, every moment that is not dedicated to the operation and success of that business is money lost and opportunity lost.

How To Do It

When you first start your time management program, sit down and make a list of every single thing that needs to be done. Then number that list in order of priority. Get a day planner and slot a certain number of hours to each task on your “to do” list, ensuring each task gets done within the required timeframe. As hard as it may be at first, do not deviate from this schedule unless it is an absolute emergency. This step is critical to the successful time management of your home business.

Avoid Time Management Pitfalls

There are a number of time management pitfalls that almost every new home business owner falls in to. Make sure you avoid the most common time management mistakes such as:

— Not completing the most important tasks of the day first thing in the morning.

— Not having a written schedule for each and every business day.

— Over-scheduling to the point that it is impossible to stay on track with your time management routine.

— Putting off the more difficult tasks and focusing on tasks that come easily.

— Allowing personal calls to interrupt your daily time management schedule.

— Drifting from business-related Internet tasks and surfing web pages for personal use.

— Getting sidetracked by spam emails and personal emails and allowing them to cut into your schedule.
