articles on time management

There are a number of factors contributing to poor time management but the reality is, procrastination is just about the “grand daddy” of them all. But procrastination alone isn’t responsible in fact, there are are few things which people do that have a lot to do with the big “P” setting in.
We’ll examine ways of eliminating procrastination during this time management article.

Another Time Management Article!

I have lost count of the number of time management articles I’ve published. Why do I write them? Because I’d love to help other people break out of their procrastination habits and lead more productive lives. If I can only help one person then I’ve done my job.

How many articles have you read? Are you still in the same rut now as when you read your first one. If you are then promise me this is the last article you’ll read. In fact, set yourself a goal: make this the last article you read until you have broken out of your rut!

Imagine yourself free from procrastination and how good it makes you feel. That sense of achievement and the extra cash incentive it’s added to your bottom line. Imagine those feelings when you finally read that article later down the track. Then chuckle to yourself and think of how easy it was to get back on track.

Problem is, it’s not as simple as that for most people so let’s try and get you back on the path to better time management.

Time Management Action Plan

Try utilizing the following action plan for better productivity:

1. Organize a mentor. Peer pressure is powerful. By having someone you respect and even fear is a great way to keep tabs on how you are managing your time.

2. Identify procrastination. There are many things we hate to do but must and if these are tied into your livelihood, then it’s costing you plenty in regards to your bottomline. This ties in with our first tip so organize a peer mentor right away!

3. Keep a journal of your activities. This will help you identify the important from the unimportant tasks in your current schedule. You’ll be able to see at first glance where you are spending unproductive time. You’ll also see at just what times of the day you are most productive!

4. Organize your schedule the day before. This is about prioritizing your day. We’re not saying the least important tasks shouldn’t be completed; you need to list the more urgent and important tasks first. Also, if you are working towards a major goal, then list the actions first which will carry you to your ultimate goal.

Time Management Tip

It’s important to create a good balance with your time. If you spend all your time working without having some relaxation time either with your friends or family then you’ll soon suffer what is known as burn out. Balance out your time so you have enough energy to take care of the important things in your life!

Setting Rewards For Yourself

We’ve covered some important ground in this time management article. Two more things to remember, don’t be afraid to set yourself small rewards along the way and don’t over commit.

Setting a reward gives you something to work towards during the day. In fact, setting rewards every hour during my writing schedule works perfectly for me. It can be anything you want but within reason and not too time consuming.

Over committing is a bad habit which can be easily “nipped in the bud.” Overcommittal leads to stress and eventually procrastination. Don’t do it!

youtube time management

Time for work-at-home mothers is their single most valuable asset. Nothing can replace time, the work at home moms most valuable, hardest to manage, commodity.

No matter how rich or poor you are, no matter how many things are on your daily ‘to-do’ list, you still only get the normal twenty-four hours every one else in the world gets, no matter how many times you swear up and down you need another twelve added to each day.

Hubbies, friends, extended families and of course, those precious children you are working to spend more time with – should all be relationships you’re able to nurture. Luckily, with technology today, it’s easir to keep up with your friendships and extended family manage your time without interrupting your workday – you don’t have to answer the phone or the door all the time. Send an email instead – or post a message on Facebook. As a work at home mom, there are only so many work hours and minutes each day that you can truly manage the tasks you need to manage without a chance of interruption. Make your work at home time an actual “work” time Since working time is limited that means that we must make the very most of the time that you’re able to devote to the house in your home office, you can’t devote too much time to extracurricular activity, or on tasks that take too much time away from your major tasks of the day.

Sometimes it gelps when you’re also able to makew your day more efficient in small ways. When you can save a minute here and a minute there, you feel more in control and in turn, are able to add more productivity to your day.

Consolidate Your Email. Use your technology such as Outlook to check all of your email accounts at once – by sending them all to one incoming program. Or, if possible, try to only keep and maintain one email address. Checking each and every email account more than once a day can be a time consuming task. One email account, or at least having it all delivered to one program, takes a lot less time than several and you can still maintain all of y various email addresses. Don’t need to spend a lot of time reading and answering emails that are not going to add to your bottom line or don’t have to do with your business or work. If an email is addressed to a lot of people, don’t waste time on it. Don’t let your email consume a lot of time. Filter the important from the irrelevant and only spend time on those emails that are related to work-related tasks.

Set up time tables to help you prioritize workday tasks. Scheduled work days are efficient work days – you’ll get a lot done in a lot less time if you know in advance what your day should look like and what you plan to do next. Visual aids can help a lot, too, like a time table.

Focus on results! When you plan a schedule, be sure that the scheduled tasks are the ones that can help your work grow and thrive. Don’t waste any time, effort or energy on tasks that can be done by others or done on a day where there’s down time.

Beware of tempting of counter-productive activity. Friends and families do require some of your time, but you can also accidentally get lost in the latest CNN story, text message string, or YouTube sensation. Don’t do it. Stick to staying in your office for your remaining work hours, It’s where you work. Save play time for play time. You will be really surprised at how much of the day goes wasted if you keep track of time expenditures over the next 24 hours. (Reading this article may or may not count, depending on what’s on your ‘to do’ list.)

If you are just starting out as a home-based mom, you’re bound to make a few organizational mistakes along the way. You’ll learn from them. If you’re just learning the ropes or hoping for a home-based jobs, set up your office first – it’s your safe haven and will get you in the spirit for your new lifestyle – you’ll feel more professional and put your message out to the universe that you’re ready for a change.

Ten Terrific Time Management Tips Everyone Can Use

1.Prepare a daily to-do list and stick by it. Ideally you can put this together the day before so that you are already primed into action from the get go the following morning. Take pleasure in ticking off tasks done on time and reward yourself with rejuvenating breaks before you get into your next work activity.

2.Be disciplined about office chitchat. Don’t be side tracked by idle talk with colleagues. While some interaction is healthy and desirable, excessive socializing can throw your work targets off. Learn to be firm with friends and colleagues by saying “while I would love to socialize with you, I have some work that needs attending to.” Or you could alternately suggest that you get together after work to chat at leisure.

3.Identify time wasters. Learn to scrutinize your typical day and zone in to those activities that take more time than they are worth. Study a few of your days—possibly even chart your work patterns and the daily distractions—and come up with suitable remedies to eliminate time wasters from your work day.

4.Be sure to replenish your office materials ahead of time. Manage your stocks and inventory, reordering ahead of time, so that you won’t waste time in the future waiting for your stocks to arrive.

5.Break down your multiple tasks by level of priority. Divide your work so that you have ‘hot’ immediate issues to take care of now, and ‘back burner’ issues that you can tend to in bursts whenever you have the time. Learn to be an efficient multi-tasker and you will find that you’re always on ‘top of things’.

6.Turn your mobile phone on silent, or off. The biggest distraction of our time is our mobile phone, forever encroaching on our every activity. Learn to turn it off when you’re engaged in serious work, so that you will not lose your focus. Having the discipline to focus also means telling your secretary to take messages for you while you are busy.

7.Pay attention to your body rhythm. Capitalize on your most productive peaks. If you are a morning person, tend to your most challenging tasks in the morning, or if you’re an afternoon person, use your morning time for more mundane, less mental-intensive work.

8.Be shrewd when managing time. If you want to avoid long meetings schedule them right before lunch or the end of day, and most people will be more inclined to brevity in order to get away. If you want to avoid pointless meetings, then cancel them, and change the communication direction in favour of other options such as memos or email. Most meetings, if not properly managed, are unnecessary time wasters for all those involved.

9.Cut down on external appointments. If you receive a lot of salespeople hawking their wares, ask them to send you profiles or their proposals by email so you have time to evaluate it before committing to a meeting. Do this only if you believe the visitor may be of value, and not as a pretext to avoid them. If you’re not interested, then you should be direct and honest in voicing this to the party that requested the meeting.

10.Don’t spend too much time with email. Another perennial time waster is email. Only go through the ones you know are important (you can determine this by seeing who the sender is, or by viewing the subject matter). Don’t indulge in back and forth email exchanges when a quick phone call will do. And whatever you do, don’t install a chat programme like MS Messenger as that means a whole bunch of unsolicited distractions.

time management guide

The train of time seems too fast most of the time that many people find already gone before they arrive at the terminus. The multitudes of things that have to be done everyday seem to many to be incorporated within a bracket of 24 hours. And to add more strain to this problem of insufficient time, body builders have to maintain a consistent training schedule.

The fact that body building is demanding when it comes to time consuming has been so overplayed that, most people abandon it for the simple reason that they can not afford the time. The following are six steps that will go a long way in helping a body builder to manage his or her time efficiently so as to escape this popular fallacy.

A body builder should start by getting organized. Effective time management results from organization. The first thing is to identify the tasks that an individual must perform in a day, week and month, prioritize them in order of importance and then assign time for each corresponding to the importance ascribed.

It is important to write down all the goals that an individual ha in mind. To achieve all the goals, an individual must keep the mind clear and the heart relaxed. A written record can be revisited often to ensure nothing is forgotten in the heat of things. It also helps institute efficiency and focus because the activities are assigned periods that correspond to the weight of their importance.

The third step is to avoid negative temptations. The truth is, contemporary times have a million things that could attract your attention and thereby diverting your focus. The internet, TV, friends, DVD players, mobile phones and family duties can dominate one’s life so much that, they eat into the time available to do any other thing. Yet most of these diversions add little quality to life or to personal development.

Although it does not mean that an individual totally abandons these activities, success rests on those who can control time expenditure and distribute available time to beneficial exploits. There is absolutely no point of making great plans that never see the light of day. Commitment is the fuel that drives plans into achievement and success accrues in body building from meticulous discipline and self sacrifice.

Fourthly, it is important that a body builder establishes and maintains the company of like-minded people who are thirsty of success in body building or who have actually excelled in the field. Successful people have successful partners who assist make things easier. Like minded people not only motivate you and offer suggestions and hints on how to do things easier, but they also understand what you commit your time to rather than keep nagging you about things that are of no interest to you.

It is also important that a body builder combines tasks that can be done simultaneously. A jog can be incorporated together with a shopping outing just as several sit-ups can rhyme with listening to music or news. Combining tasks and even workouts and forming a comprehensive but non-hectic schedule saves a lot of time.

Finally, the body builder should endeavor to be realistic at all time in his or her time management. Setting the goals high but keep the mind on the ground all the while is the key. A body builder must separate day dreams from goals by balancing optimism with an adequate dose of pessimism.

project management software tool

Project Management Software encompasses many different types of software that work together for managing any project. Some of them are cost control software, budget management and collaboration software, quality management, scheduling software and documentation or administration systems whose functions are to ensure that the project is tackled in a correct manner. On the other hand, Time Management Software may be defined as software which is used for planning as well as scheduling time, generally with the purpose of enhancing the efficacy or efficiency of any project.

Project Management Software has some tasks or actions. One of its actions is scheduling or planning the succession of events. The complication of this particular task may fluctuate depending on the way this tool is used. Another task of this software is calculation of the critical paths which are found in various complicated schedules which contributes towards the optimization of the project timings. Project Management Software also provides plenty of information to different people in order to rationalize the amount of time spent on its usage.

There are different approaches to Project Management Software. It can be applied in the form of a program which can be run on every user’s desktop. This includes both graphically-intense and non-graphically intense interfaces. It can also be implemented as a Web application which is accessible by means of an intranet or an extranet using a web browser. Project Management Software can also be used as an application for the management of personal projects such as running lifestyle or home projects. Generally speaking the interfaces for single user systems would be simpler than for those designed for more than one user.

The Time Management Software is extremely simple to use. Once it is installed this software will assist in working with several projects without any feeling of being weighed down. With Time Management Software one is able to take over, organize as well as manage multiple projects in a central place. With the help of Time Management Software the larger projects can be divided into a number of smaller steps by using the number of levels required. This helps in efficient organization of a project and aids in controlling time as opposed to being controlled by it.

Project Management Software also helps in separating projects from the tasks which in turn assists in focusing on the outcomes and not only on actions. Time Management Software makes for productive planning of the day to day activities pertaining to the projects. One knows the daily progress of each project and also what goals to achieve for a particular day or week or month with the help of this software. It is clear therefore, that Time Management Software is of great help when it comes to effective time management of any project. It enables a person to work systematically and at the same time helps him or her in the optimum management of time on that particular project.

About the Author:

Both Project Management Software as well as Time Management Software are very useful today. Both simple and complex projects need these types of software to ensure timely and successful completion.
