Outsourcing software jobs is certainly a viable business solution for all types of industries. Software plays an integral part in many different industries and because software is constantly evolving and developing it is not always feasible to employ an in-house software staff capable of meeting complex software needs.

Companies may find the ability to outsource software projects while still maintaining a certain degree of profitability. However, there are a few caveats to doing this. Outsourcing software jobs is a sound business practice but care should be taking to avoid certain pitfalls often associated with outsourcing work.

Taking a few precautions can prevent the company from making mistakes while outsourcing such as outsourcing the work to individuals ore companies who lack necessary qualifications, making fatal scheduling errors and spending too much money to outsource the project.

Properly Screening Outsourcing Candidates

One of the most common mistakes made in outsourcing software projects is delegating the project to an individual who lacks the necessary qualifications and capabilities to complete the project efficiently.

Companies who regularly outsource work may establish working relationships with individuals they are confident will perform well but before these types of relationships are established it will be necessary to carefully screen each potential candidate before outsourcing a job.

There are precautions companies can take when they are considering outsourcing a software project to ensure the candidate they select is well qualified to complete the project. The following are a few of the basic precautions companies should take:

1. Describe the project sufficiently in job advertisements
2. Review applications and resumes carefully
3. Schedule interviews with qualified candidates
4. Ask interview candidates to provide a list of work references
5. Verify each reference and check the validity of work history

Establishing Schedules When Outsourcing

Another mistake often made by companies who outsource is to fail to establish a firm schedule. This may not be especially harmful when the schedule of the project is flexible but it can be a serious mistake when the schedule of the project is not flexible.

Finding a candidate who is qualified to handle outsourcing work is important but it is also important to find a candidate who is available when you need someone to complete the work.

This is a significant point because some candidates may be well qualified but if they are not available when you need them they are not an ideal candidate to complete the project.

It is best to discuss scheduling upfront when screening outsourcing candidates. This is important because it can be costly to spend time finding a candidate only to find out they are unavailable towards the end of the screening process.

Spending Too Much Money on Outsourcing

One final mistake companies often make when outsourcing is spending too much money on outsourcing. This includes money paid to the individual or firm to complete the work as well as money invested in finding the most qualified candidate.

One precaution to take when considering outsourcing is to investigate all of the costs associated with outsourcing and establish a budge for having a particular project completed as an outsourcing endeavor before beginning to search for potential candidates. Doing this will enable companies to evaluate whether or not outsourcing is a wise decision from a financial standpoint before they invest too much in the process.

When evaluating the costs associated with outsourcing a software project it is important to consider a number of factors. First evaluate the amount the client is paying for the completion of the project.

Next assess the in-house effort which will be required for this project including management and recruiting candidates to complete the project. Determine the percentage of the budget which will be consumed by these efforts.

Now it is time to look at the remaining budget and determine how much can be invested in outsourcing the project while still remaining profitable. The fees paid to the independent contractor or consulting firm should not be so high that they do not enable the company to profit from the project.

Professional and Executive Women have more demands on their time than ever and achieving career success while balancing after-hours commitments can seem like a Herculean task.  There are some easy strategies that many “superwomen†use to control their often hectic lives; this article will give you the top four secrets of successful time management for working women.  As you read them keep in mind that these ideas are not groundbreaking in and of themselves, but many successful professional and executive women implement them more consistently than others.

1) Define What You Want – In every situation you are involved in you should begin with the end in mind.  (Stephen Covey made this concept famous in “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.â€)  You need to identify your deepest values and make a list of what success in each area looks like.  Without a vision of your desired outcome, you are likely to pass time rather than moving in a desired direction.  Think of a sailor leaving the harbor without a specific destination. She can still set sail, but will end up running out of resources at sea instead of moving toward a point of interest.  If your deepest values include spending time with your family, making meaningful connections with people, or bringing your product to launch at work, you need to define what success in each area looks like as specifically as possible.

2) Prioritize What You Want – Once you’ve identified what you want, now you need to prioritize what is most important to you.  Think about what each item on your list will give you in terms of return on your investment of time and prioritize each item based on the best return.  For example, spending time at your child’s baseball game may be more important to you than finishing a report for your boss by deadline; if you only have three hours after work you must decide what is most important to you. You may decide that other duties must still get done but you can perform the lower-return duties after your children are asleep or you can delegate them.  Keep in mind as you prioritize that your highest priorities should be things that move you in the direction of your deepest values.

3) Delegate What You Can – As we progress through life, demands on our time tend to accumulate.  We take on more responsibility at work, start families, work begins to bleed into home life as responsibilities mount, our children start joining activities after school that we want to attend and our homes still need to be cleaned, cars and clothes washed etc.  Many successful women have begun delegating some of these duties to cleaning and yard services in order to focus on higher-return activities in other areas of their lives. 

4) Develop Your Action Plan – Once you have defined what you want, prioritized those items based on return on your investment and delegated what you can, now it is time to develop your action plan.  The enemy of productivity is busy work.  Without an action plan focused on what you’re trying to achieve, you will end up wasting a lot of time with busy-work that doesn’t move you in the direction of your goals.  Create a routine, a Plan A, that allows time to focus on action steps that move you closer to your deepest values.  Make sure to allot time to each area of importance to you and consistently execute your action plan.  Of course there will be times when you must move to Plan B due to an unforeseen circumstance, but if the majority of your time is focused on your desired outcome, you’re much more likely to reach your destination.

Once you have implemented these time management success secrets, review your action plan at least once every six months and make adjustments.

. Long are the days where the stay at home mom focuses solely on cleaning, cooking, and other chores. Being a work at home mom is now considered to be a professional choice that takes a lot of dedication and persistence. This is especially true when it comes to appropriately managing time. Here, I will offer some effective time management skills for moms who work from home.

One of the most important time management skills when it comes to working at home as a mom is to set a schedule in place. Schedules are everything! Now, most of us who elect to work at home do so in part due to the amount of flexibility that we can enjoy. This is where many women simply throw out a “schedule”. Most of these women eventually discover that there has to be some sort of dedication, some sort of timing in place that is designated for everything. It is so easy to get distracted by the laundry, telephone calls from friends, and even that grocery shop that you anticipate with dread. Create a schedule where you allow “blocks” of time to be dedicated for work, and then place times in between work time blocks to take care of the other things that need done. This will allow you to work more efficiently, and will help ease the stress of your day as well!

The next time management tip for moms who work from home is being able to say “no”, and mean it. It is important to come to terms with the fact that your friends, family members, and neighbors simply do not understand that when you work at home, professionally, and mother children that you are pretty tied up. They think that you can do whatever you want, whenever you want. It is not uncommon to receive phone calls from these individuals asking if you want to go out somewhere, or if you can take them here or there, and other last minute things. If you give in every single time, you will soon find that the kids are begging for your attention, the laundry is pilling up, and your work clients are probably not too happy. Learn to say “no”, and let everyone know that if they want to make plans, it is important to do it ahead of time.

There are three things that can really put a large strain on your time. These things include checking your email, internet surfing, and telephone calls. If you fall into the trap of checking your email every half hour, answering the phone every single time that it rings, or even surfing the internet periodically throughout the day, it is very likely that you will end up losing several hours of time a day! Turn the ringer off on the phone or turn it down, and hook up an answering machine to the telephone. Designate a time every single day where you return calls, and be sure to watch the amount of time that you end up chatting. Also, you should designate times for checking email, and do it in fifteen minute blocks. The same should be done if you want to surf the internet. These are some of the measures I take when it comes to time management skills for moms who work from home, and they have proven to be successful for me!
