Your workers can use time management activity to help them function properly while juggling huge amount of work. This type of activity can also improve the team morale by planning a group activity which can bring the office teammates together.

The purpose is twofold, with one part of the activity will serve to educate your staff good techniques for managing their jobs while the other part will tell people on how to work together while getting their work done. By helping one another among your workers and learning how to use their time more effectively is one of such activity that the management would like to install among staff.

Some corporations report giving short projects that require planning, timing and intricate work patterns. Groups of employees are given such short projects to complete in a short amount of time. Therefore, time management skills has to come into play as the group must estimate time requirements, divide responsibilities, establish priorities and manage deadlines.

Where can I learn the basics of Project Management?

I want to be able to better organize all the projects (non-construction) that I have going on. I think I’d like to eventually use the software to help, but need to know enough about the concept to be able to utilize the software…

You are correct in that you should learn something about project management before learning about a specific tool or software.

A good book to read is Project Management for Dummies. Depending on where you are, you might want to check local community colleges etc for cost effective PM courses. There are many commercial courses available – I would try and take one in person if possible.

A good book to learn about MS Project is MS Project Step-by-Step (after you’ve read the other book.)

College and university years are some of the best years of a person’s life. It is in these years hat there are surplus activities, piles of responsibilities and obligations and a number of people and personalities to befriend.

Entering college does not mean that you must forsake making new friends for studies. If your aim is to finish your college successfully and become a professional in the field of your choice, it is extremely important to make new acquaintances. They can be a great help in the accomplishment of your goals.

It is your new friends who will understand the pressures and frustrations of being a college student. They can help you with project perspectives and lecture notes. They can also suggest great ways of getting rid of stress.

But this does not mean you need to spend all your time at social functions, hanging out with them. You need a time management plan to manage your life between college work and social activities, while keeping track of your most important goals.

New friends imply new social commitments and more to add to your list of schedules and important dates. If you are unable to set up an efficient time management plan, you could end up drifting from one social activity to another. It will continue that way up till a point where you do not have enough time to concentrate on your lectures and assignments.

New friends in college almost always implies interruptions and putting off activities on your schedule.

Here are a few tips on time management to ensure you do not head off on the path of destruction due to jovial abandon and carelessness.

1. Use a time chart for finding the best suitable time for different activities. As a college student, you will have many challenges regarding time management; you will need a disciplined track of managing time. Fixed classes and the free time between each is one of the special time features of college life. Getting sufficient rest and socializing time is also an aspect of college time management.
You will require a time chart to avoid being held up due to less important activities. You need to add some structure to your schedule. Base your time chart on the different activities that you have to attend to.
This time chart can help you determine the time when your mental concentration is at its best. You can schedule the study hours for your difficult tasks during these times.
Once you write off these hours, you will know that these hours cannot be used for other activities. If any social invitations come up during these hours, you should politely decline.
2. Do not give in to over-choice. There are many activities to choose from for a college student. But sometimes one gets more inclined towards a particular activity irrespective of its bearing on their ultimate goal. Even if it involves meeting new people, the activities that compel you to lose site of your priorities are not worth pursuing.
3. Every time you pursue an activity, such as going out with friends, excessively, you are rejecting all your other options that are available to you during that time.
With significant interaction with new people, you can successfully function as a college student. However, ensure you do not overdo it. You should always remember the time management tips for balancing all your activities and achieving your goals.

Time management provides you with the opportunity to create a schedule that works for you, not for others. This personal attention gives you the flexibility to include the things that are most important to you.

If using your time wisely is a problem for you, you probably don’t have a very good idea of where it all goes. It just seems to go! A good place to start, then, is to keep track of how you use your time. Get a Weekly schedule (available in the Learning Skills corner of the Counseling and Testing Center’s Career Library) and faithfully keep track of how you use your waking hours for one week. The results will probably surprise you.

Successful leaders in almost every field organize each day according to the priority assigned to the activities to be accomplished. Make sufficient copies of the Daily Activity Guide to insure a two-week supply, and use the form as an aid in planning each day’s work.

The objective is to change your behaviors over time to achieve whatever general goal you’ve set for yourself, such as increasing your productivity or decreasing your stress. So you need to not only set your specific goals, but track them over time to see whether or not you’re accomplishing them.

Put things that are most important at the top and do them first. If it’s easier, use a planner to track all of your tasks. And don’t forget to reward yourself for your accomplishments.

Visualize your long term picture of success and put it in writing. Review your goal frequently. Your goal should be specific, measurable, achievable and compatible with where you are now. There should be an end date as well. Steven Covey calls this “Begin with the end in mind.”

Planning your day can help you feel more in control of you life. Write a to-do list, putting the most important tasks at the top. Keep a schedule of your daily activities to minimize conflicts and last-minute rushes.

Professional and Executive Women have more demands on their time than ever and achieving career success while balancing after-hours commitments can seem like a Herculean task.  There are some easy strategies that many “superwomen†use to control their often hectic lives; this article will give you the top four secrets of successful time management for working women.  As you read them keep in mind that these ideas are not groundbreaking in and of themselves, but many successful professional and executive women implement them more consistently than others.

1) Define What You Want – In every situation you are involved in you should begin with the end in mind.  (Stephen Covey made this concept famous in “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.â€)  You need to identify your deepest values and make a list of what success in each area looks like.  Without a vision of your desired outcome, you are likely to pass time rather than moving in a desired direction.  Think of a sailor leaving the harbor without a specific destination. She can still set sail, but will end up running out of resources at sea instead of moving toward a point of interest.  If your deepest values include spending time with your family, making meaningful connections with people, or bringing your product to launch at work, you need to define what success in each area looks like as specifically as possible.

2) Prioritize What You Want – Once you’ve identified what you want, now you need to prioritize what is most important to you.  Think about what each item on your list will give you in terms of return on your investment of time and prioritize each item based on the best return.  For example, spending time at your child’s baseball game may be more important to you than finishing a report for your boss by deadline; if you only have three hours after work you must decide what is most important to you. You may decide that other duties must still get done but you can perform the lower-return duties after your children are asleep or you can delegate them.  Keep in mind as you prioritize that your highest priorities should be things that move you in the direction of your deepest values.

3) Delegate What You Can – As we progress through life, demands on our time tend to accumulate.  We take on more responsibility at work, start families, work begins to bleed into home life as responsibilities mount, our children start joining activities after school that we want to attend and our homes still need to be cleaned, cars and clothes washed etc.  Many successful women have begun delegating some of these duties to cleaning and yard services in order to focus on higher-return activities in other areas of their lives. 

4) Develop Your Action Plan – Once you have defined what you want, prioritized those items based on return on your investment and delegated what you can, now it is time to develop your action plan.  The enemy of productivity is busy work.  Without an action plan focused on what you’re trying to achieve, you will end up wasting a lot of time with busy-work that doesn’t move you in the direction of your goals.  Create a routine, a Plan A, that allows time to focus on action steps that move you closer to your deepest values.  Make sure to allot time to each area of importance to you and consistently execute your action plan.  Of course there will be times when you must move to Plan B due to an unforeseen circumstance, but if the majority of your time is focused on your desired outcome, you’re much more likely to reach your destination.

Once you have implemented these time management success secrets, review your action plan at least once every six months and make adjustments.

Auditing Your Activities To Make Time Management Work

For self employed people they are an excellent way to identify the areas that need attention. After all, if you are the one responsible for generating your own income then doesn’t it make sense to know where you’re wasting time on low producing tasks but ignoring potentially high productivity areas.

You record each and every activity you perform during working hours including seemingly insignificant things like checking email. After a week, analyze your statement and you will immediately see where you are most productive and when you are unproductive. You can then schedule the higher value and more difficult tasks for your high production times. You can also cut down or completely eliminate wasteful tasks from your day.

Time Management At Work – Achieving Results

It will take a little discipline at first but a time management activity statement can really help you to turn your productivity levels around. Once you perform the exercise, it becomes addictive and in most cases, it’s a process many will continue to apply. Are you ready to know the truth?
