Your biggest advantage in home business could become your worst enemy as well, that is absence of boss and you need to do your own time management. For instance, you think that you have all the time in the world and you will be able to do everything under the sun within the day. Alternatively, you just relax too much and do not put enough effort, like the hare in the famous hare and tortoise story.

I have identified the major problems that takes away your time from you and then prescribed the solution. In terms of problems, the first problem is there is no Boss. After the end of the week, no one is coming to you and asking to look at the time sheets. Your mind start thinking that it can take a break as long as it wishes. The second biggest problem is lack of co-operation from Family. Your family members see you at home. They just now think you are there. You keep on getting requests like pay the bills; pick up the kid from the school and an endless list.

Third biggest problem is lack of discipline. Because you don’t have to enter office at 8:00 am, you slowly start waking up late and late from bed. As Einstein said, “The universe and human stupidity are endless”.
After identifying the problem it’s the time to overcome them and take control of your own time. The first step is goal setting. Set your yearly goals. Break them up into monthly, weekly and daily goals. You have to achieve those small goals to become successful in your home based business. Remember, every great journey starts with a single footstep. Secondly, you will have to become really your that boss. You have to be your own critique. For half an hour in the day, think you are your own boss. Look at your own work from a different perspective. Set up a reward and punishment schedule. Use Outlook express or other software. For me a pen and paper works very well.

And finally communicate with Family. Make a promise that you will enter your home office at 7:00 sharp in the morning. Tell your family that you need uninterrupted time from here to say 5:00. Tell them you will be a perfect family man after this time, but if they disturb you during this time. And the fourth step is, prepare the daily routine beforehand. Before you go to bed, prepare a list of tasks you want to do. Then sleep. While sleeping your brain will think about it and next morning, you will feel pushed to complete the work. Finally take one day in a week break. Just indulge yourself with the family in exciting activities that just takes away your mind from the reality.

Each of us has our own reasons for continuously working to improve both in our personal lives and our professional or work-a-day life. You might be trying to earn the next big salary increase. You could feel that learning a new technology will help you over a particularly weak spot in your skills. Whatever the reason, have you extended your thinking to see that when you improve, you increase both your productivity and your time management skills set?

In his Great Little Book on Mastering Your Time, Brian Tracy states that, “Personal development is a major time-saver. The better you become, the less time it takes you to achieve your goals.”

How true, how true! Remember back to when you were fresh in the job you have now. Can you remember how long it took you to establish a productive routine! There were forms to create, contacts to establish, systems to discover and confidence to be gained!

Once you have mastered all of the above, i.e., mastered your time, did you stop there? Many people do! Sadly, when we reach a comfort zone where things are going smoothly and we know both the ins and outs of our profession and also where we fit in with respect to all of the players, we begin to coast!

Is this what you want – to coast? Coasting can guarantee dying in your present job or relationship regardless of how great you think you are currently. We get stale! We stop going that extra mile and worst of all, we stop having fun!

If we don’t stay on top of this concept, we will lose the fresh edge that got us to the top initially, and once it’s gone, it’s really tough to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps to regain it! At this point, time management goes down the drain?

This week, look for ways to spice up your personal and professional development strategy. If you do not have a personal or professional development strategy, create one. If you have one in place, give it a fresh look and see if you can tweak it to become better. Be creative, bold and daring! Look beyond what classes you will take or which books you will read and peer into the unknown, whatever the unknown is for you! Can you see how you will improve your time management skills set if you expand your mind or use some development strategy to upgrade your thinking? You’re the only one who can answer this question. See what there is to discover this week and have fun discovering it! Enjoy your week!!

1. An Introduction to Mobile Email
While the complexity and requirements that large scale solutions must achieve have greatly increased during the last few years, a growing number of service providers have also started to include support for enterprise functionalities in order to better meet and adapt to their customers’ ever changing messaging needs.

With email quickly becoming the primary means of communication for both corporate and individual users, the competition in the market also gets tougher every day. Consequently, a new breed of email services has to be appended to already existing portfolios in order to attract new customers and keep current service subscribers happy. This is where offering mobile email functionalities such as the Push technology or PIM database synchronization can make the difference.

2. Push Email and PIM Synchronization
Instant access to messages, contacts, calendar, or tasks regardless of time and location makes it easier for mobile workers to manage business operations, to stay in touch with customers and partners, and abreast of the latest changes and events on the market. It also ensures a better balance between professional and personal lives, enabling frequent travelers to keep in close contact with family and friends at all times. As a result, instant email retrieval has become more and more popular in both business and personal communication environments.

Smartphones and PDAs have also raised the bar in this sense and personal information management along with wireless (GPRS, 3G etc.) email access are visibly embraced by a fast-growing community of users. This is a known fact and the trend seems to pick up the pace with each month.

How It Works: Email and PIM synchronization is the next best thing in email since the invention of the IMAP protocol. Through a technology, now known as “Push Email”, the tables have turned on email servers and clients. Normally, the client (desktop or mobile) would connect to the server and log in with the account credentials. Once the authentication is complete the client would poll the account by asking the server if any new messages are available.

As opposed to this, Push email instructs the server to instantly notify the client when a new email arrives. The main difference between these two approaches consists in the fact that the server will always know when a new message exists, while the client does not and has to check for them in a timely fashion. Push email is also much more economic in terms of data transfer amount and bandwidth usage. Establishing a single connection and maintaining it in an idle state is a very relaxed way to help the server contact the client whenever required.

Almost the same thing happens when speaking about PIM database synchronization. Appointments, tasks, notes and all of the data stored as PIM information are translated into email objects formatted in a special way, so that the contents can later be interpreted appropriately. So both emails and PIM data rely on the same standard and look a lot alike, despite some major differences that will not be detailed in the present whitepaper. What needs to be remembered is that from an email server’s perspective, the above mentioned objects are considered emails in the general meaning of the word.

3. AXIGEN Mobility Services
At this time, quite a lot of PIM sync and email pushing technologies exist and they are all implemented differently, even though they perform the same task. By far, the most popular technology, used world-wide, is Microsoft’s ActiveSync protocol. Therefore, AXIGEN has chosen to first implement support for this specific technology in order to reach and provide this feature to the largest base of users possible. The series of mobile devices and handsets that support the ActiveSync protocol includes Nokia / SymbianOS devices, Windows Mobile (since 2003 up to latest version), Apple iPhone and other devices that can have compatible software installed.

Possessing time management skills can be beneficial in all aspects of life. Not only are they essential when doing physical tasks or activities, but time management skills can also be helpful when spending time online.

As an increasing number of people begin to spend much of their time on the internet, the idea of putting that time to more efficient use becomes all the more important. Here are some great tips that can help you make each minute count online.

A good time management skill to develop, even while online, is learning how to be more organized. This might seem an obvious tip, but it is something that most people fail to make a habit of. Not being able to organize things can lead to a considerable amount of time wasted on finding things and remembering tasks. Developing good organizational skills, in itself, can be a great time saver.

Keeping organized online is a practice that can help you provide more time to spend on important tasks. One of the simplest ways to do this is learning to keep important website addresses organized. Surfing the net is faster and easier if you know where you are going. Less time is also spent on wondering what sites you need to visit.

If you already have a number of websites that you frequently go to and wish to return to on a daily basis, it is important that you always have a list of them with you. This list can either be in a document file that you save on your computer or a paper list that you keep in a safe place.

Better yet, you can conveniently organize these websites by using the bookmark feature of your PC browser. This way you can always access your bookmark sites every time you wish to visit them. You no longer have to spend time trying to remember them from memory.

Another good time management skill to develop online is by learning how to check your emails on a scheduled basis. More online time is spent browsing through emails, even those that prove to be useless. Without a schedule to follow, you can easily immerse yourself just checking your emails with complete disregard of time. Keep it a habit of giving a specified amount of time just checking up on your emails. Try to strictly enforce the schedule on yourself so that you don’t waste time solely on it while leaving other tasks behind.

Now, I am going to share with you a secret that most businesses who specialize in creating and selling time management tools do not want you to hear. The best simple and effective time management technique is implementing the use of a pen and a piece of paper! Yes, that’s right! The good old fashioned method of keeping track of time with a “To Do” list is the most effective means of appropriately managing your time! I mean, if you think about time organizers that are electronic based, they can be really complicated when it comes to running them, and finding files on them. Ultimately, you are actually losing time each day by using these systems rather than gaining time!

When it comes to electronic based organizers and handheld time management systems, you have to worry about supplying a steady stream of power to these units. That means that they chew on your electrical costs when they are charging, and they chew on your wallet a little when batteries must be bought for them. What happens if you have no access to power? What happens if that battery decides to give out in the middle of the day? I will tell you – your entire day will be lost and you will have no direction whatsoever! Why put yourself at risk for these situations to occur? Grab a good pen, some nice clean sheets of paper and be on your way!!!

One of the best investments that you can make is a small notepad and a pen that you can use to write in that notebook. Just in case the first pen runs out of ink, it is always great to have a backup pen. You should stick this notebook and these pens in your pocket so that you always have access to them. Throughout the day, as you get new ideas and commit to new things that will or may affect your time, you can simply jot them down in your little notebook! Now, don’t you think that is much easier than programming everything that affects your time into some handheld electronic unit? Plus, do you know how much those little organizers and even time management software programs cost? The notebook and pens you buy do not even cost 1% of what you will spend on these units! Don’t complicate time management, simplify it!

Time management at work is an essential skill to master if you want to become more efficient and experience less stress in the workplace. Being able to apply good time management at work can help you achieve more in a day.

Organizing your daily schedule can also help in giving you more control over the use of your time and energy in doing the different tasks. This will help to lessen the stress brought about by meeting deadlines and the pile-up of different tasks that still need to be done.

In today’s workplace, time seems to be in short supply. And in a very busy workplace, an employee confronted with an increasing number of tasks required to be done on a daily basis can be very stressful. However, no task is insurmountable if you only know how to apply good time management at work.

Managing time need not be that difficult. What it requires is constant practice on a daily basis. Making time management a habit can work wonders. You easily realize just how much work can be accomplished with good time management. Doing so might even leave you with some time left to relax and let it all hang out.

One of the most important tips in practicing good time management is by learning how to organize. Good organizational skills allow you to learn how not to get lost over tasks. Good organizational skills also require you to know how to prioritize. With good organization, less time is spent on keeping track of work, and energies are kept focused more at accomplishing the different tasks.

A good way of organizing everything at the workplace is by practicing the art of making lists. Listing tasks on paper can help make you see what needs to be done. Add to that task list their corresponding deadlines and you may be able to see what tasks need to be prioritized.

Committing everything to memory would not always be dependable. Forgetting a certain task is easy without a task list on hand to remind you of what you need to do. Poor time management at work is failing to put what you need to do on paper. Making a habit of making lists at work is a simple yet valuable time management step.

What effective self management tips do you know for non-medicated bi-polar sufferers?

I have BiPolar II and am coming off medication and trying self management. Looking for simple but effective routine-change style things to do to better manage it where possible.

I’ve successfully been off meds now, since June 2006. I have small swings, not very often tho, but I’m able to control them. They normally happen because I’ve had too much coffee, stayed up too late etc, and being a mother I need to be responsible etc, so I’m quick to get on top of things. I will take meds if I need to, I just prefer not too, and have MANY valid reasons. Anyway, how I’ve made it so far:

* Routine, routine, routine. I have a diary for times, acitvites, appointments, and countless lists.

* Exercise. I find that is essential for me, to find my ‘center’

* Diet. Sugary food, junk food is baaaaaad for my moods. It’s really amazing how much diet has an effect on me, so I aim for low gi foods, and small meals often. Also helped me with my weight loss, so double bonus!

* Coffeee… keep to a minimum. And not after 3pm ish.

* Sleep! At the appropriate times.

* And if I’m feeling stressed I dont put extra pressure on myself. I am kinder to myself now. I try to adopt a more of a attitude as in “My all, or my best at the time” rather than the frustrating and often dissapointing mantra “All or nothing!” I used to live by.

* Talking. Shrinks, psychologists, good friends, anyone! I made great strides since I started seeing a psychologist. Talking and setting goals, not letting things build up and validating my feelings, and just generally working thru the million issues I have, has worked wonders.

I think thats it…. it’s hard going med free as EVERYONE, almost, thinks it’s a bad idea, but I have a few professionals, and all my friends and family who support me, and are amazed how well I’m doing. I would never recommend someone to do it, as some people really do go off their nut, but just find some one that does understand, and is willing to help, and respect the fact that meds are not the only treatment for bipolar. Sometimes tho, and for some periods in life, they’re are needed.

I’ve just resigned myself that I have this problem, and I will fight it, but if I need help and strength (meds) I will take them.

Just be careful please, and this doesnt work for everyone. Good luck!
