Tasks lists can be super helpful for creative firms or creative departments (e.g. art departments, interactive agencies, internal marketing or communications) to get more done, manage processes better and to get better information on their work (including tracking billable hours). “Structure is now the big fetish for Tai Chi and other internal training. But that’s taking the finger for the moon because any structure is tension, while the whole point of the training is to shed tension and relax. It’s true that in the early stages, a few straight-forward postural basics are used to prime the pump and set the stage. But those structural basics are a form of (controlled) tension, so even that is playing with fire.

An excellent example of how to be proactive when you drop the ball is an incident in which an Enterprise Rent-A-Car, located in Massachusetts, didn’t have a customer’s reservation or vehicle available. Their customer service representative could have been skeptical that the reservation was never made by the customer; but instead apologized profusely and called nearby branches until they found the vehicle this customer needed. Collectors, yes, collectors. That is what we all are when we start out with Getting Things Done (GTD) or any other productivity method. But if you’re dedicated, smart and willing to work harder than most, settling for a work at home job could be selling yourself short.

(Written by Theresa Tan, Director of WMD and former Senior Editor of Vanilla Magazine) The Molly Lee Appeal was one of those things that was “meant to be”. I’ll be honest — after 5 years of Women Make A Difference (WMD), I was ready to take a break. Not that WMD had been doing a lot but the admin totally felled me. I was sick of counting T-shirts, making deliveries (so much that I owed one poor supporter a pink T-shirt for TWO YEARS), keeping accounts (more like losing them).

Lying gits. When something says “ceilidh”, which is, y’know, a Gaelic word, it kind of gives the impression to foolish consumers of Saturday evening social entertainment that it’s going to have something to do with Irish music, or at least Scottish. No such luck: the dancing on offer was generic rustic/country/barn dancing, about as Irish as Boutros-Boutros Ghali.[not Irish, yesterday.]That’s not to say I had a bad evening – in fact it was a very good one, with Paula, her friends C, N & T, and
