DAH, the surprisingly effective friendship and professional application is now available in BETA version 4.0. There have been several upgrades to DAH in this new version, although everything associated with the DAH application remains, as always, backwards compatible. Returning families will be able to register by mail this year! The “summer packet” materials and forms will be on the web site by August 3 and will be mailed to you along with your student record on August 14. You will need to stop in at school or mail in your forms before Labor Day. We will mail out your child’s teacher and classroom assignments just prior to the start of school (Sept 9). All new families are requested to register in person and attend New Family Orientation.

Welcome to Monday darlings! Time to set your sites on getting things done and making life happen until next weekend. What’s on your tray for this week? Tuning up your bike? Writing that big story for your agency? Planning a marvelous dinner party for 8? Me? I’m going to figure out how to keep a fiance with a broken leg entertained for 5 weeks. I will be coming up with 5 weekends worth of broken bone friendly dates, all involving a lot of sitting still, flat land, taxi cabs, and of course at least a moderate amount of good times.

You may remember reading some months back about the Autofocus task management system created by Mark Forster. Since February I’ve been using this system exclusively, and have found it exceptionally good at managing both business and personal tasks. Mark has made some slight updates to the system based on feedback received on the Autofocus community forum. This new system, Autofocus2 or AF2, is even better than the original Autofocus and is highly recommended.

You can now enter games for the 2010 Independent Games Festival competition . The main competition (i.e., non-student) deadline is November 1st , just as last year. One of the best tactics I found for getting things done with Macguffin Games was to sign up for hard deadlines and then tell everyone about them. “Ruinous Bets” is the term my friend Patrick and I use for them. How many times have you said, “I should (fill in blank), but I just don’t have the time”? If a lack of time is keeping you from doing things critical to your success, something has to change. So, where can you “find” time you didn’t seem to have? Eliminate unnecessary work. If you are doing stuff that doesn’t need to be done, stop. Maybe it’s something you’ve “always” done. That doesn’t mean you should continue. Get expert help. You could write that sales letter yourself.
